Description

Deep blues and glowing orange create a striking contrast in “Shaman” by Penelope Bushman. The front-facing figure wears a broad blue robe patterned with dark vertical marks and pale blue accents, divided by a vivid orange panel. A burgundy collar with blue-and-yellow details frames a small multicolored beaded necklace, while turquoise-colored bead accents add dimension along the orange trim.

A blue spiral curls within a burgundy circle at the figure’s side, surrounded by a golden-yellow border with orange motifs. Pale blue feather-like strokes above the head and a slender dark staff complete the composition against a warm, textured earth-toned background. Measuring 6" x 6", this gallery-wrapped miniature oil painting brings bold color and carefully layered detail to a small wall or a favorite grouping of artwork.

About the Artist

A smiling woman with long red hair and blue eyes wearing a bright turquoise button-up shirt, photographed indoors against a warm-toned decorative background.

Penelope grew up surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes of northern Indiana where she began painting watercolors of the beach at a young age. She studied fine art at the Academy of Art in Chicago. After completing her training, she moved to Arizona and was inspired by the rich beauty of the southwest and its native history.

Penelope translates the ancient imagery into colorful contemporary portrayals of shamans and sentinels. She is "intrigued by the shaman figure depicted in petroglyphs for all it symbolizes: healing, wisdom and the quest for spiritual connection."

Penelope's original oil on canvas paintings display her love of color and texture. The Shamans gowns portray beautiful fabric designs and include interesting elements of texture and often hand-strung bead work.

Penelope welcomes commissions and would be delighted to create an original oil painting tailored to your preferred size and color palette.
