Description

Warm earth tones and softly glowing patterns give “Shaman” by Penelope Bushman a quiet charm. A stylized figure holds a slender staff, wrapped in a gray garment patterned with cream-colored squares and small yellow accents. A deep reddish-brown band with hand-sewn beading crosses the shoulders, while a sweeping fold of fabric reveals a rich red pattern below.

Against the textured ochre-brown background, a subtle painted spiral adds one more detail to discover. This 6" x 6" miniature oil painting invites a closer look at its layered textures and beadwork. Gallery wrapped, it’s a lovely way to bring warmth and character to a small wall or a favorite grouping of artwork.

About the Artist

A smiling woman with long red hair and blue eyes wearing a bright turquoise button-up shirt, photographed indoors against a warm-toned decorative background.

Penelope grew up surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes of northern Indiana where she began painting watercolors of the beach at a young age. She studied fine art at the Academy of Art in Chicago. After completing her training, she moved to Arizona and was inspired by the rich beauty of the southwest and its native history.

Penelope translates the ancient imagery into colorful contemporary portrayals of shamans and sentinels. She is "intrigued by the shaman figure depicted in petroglyphs for all it symbolizes: healing, wisdom and the quest for spiritual connection."

Penelope's original oil on canvas paintings display her love of color and texture. The Shamans gowns portray beautiful fabric designs and include interesting elements of texture and often hand-strung bead work.

Penelope welcomes commissions and would be delighted to create an original oil painting tailored to your preferred size and color palette.
