Description

Vivid orange, deep red, and bright blue bring a bold presence to “Shaman” by Penelope Bushman. The front-facing figure wears a broad orange garment scattered with golden-yellow marks, a blue patterned collar, and a richly textured red skirt. A small necklace of multicolored beads adds dimension and an inviting detail to discover up close.

Dark outlines define the figure against a warm, earthy background, with a slender staff at one side and a blue-edged circular spiral at the other. A second spiral above the shoulder echoes the design, drawing the eye through this colorful composition. Measuring 6" x 6", this gallery-wrapped miniature oil painting brings warmth and character to a small wall or a thoughtfully arranged collection.

About the Artist

A smiling woman with long red hair and blue eyes wearing a bright turquoise button-up shirt, photographed indoors against a warm-toned decorative background.

Penelope grew up surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes of northern Indiana where she began painting watercolors of the beach at a young age. She studied fine art at the Academy of Art in Chicago. After completing her training, she moved to Arizona and was inspired by the rich beauty of the southwest and its native history.

Penelope translates the ancient imagery into colorful contemporary portrayals of shamans and sentinels. She is "intrigued by the shaman figure depicted in petroglyphs for all it symbolizes: healing, wisdom and the quest for spiritual connection."

Penelope's original oil on canvas paintings display her love of color and texture. The Shamans gowns portray beautiful fabric designs and include interesting elements of texture and often hand-strung bead work.

Penelope welcomes commissions and would be delighted to create an original oil painting tailored to your preferred size and color palette.
