Description

Soft blues, warm earth tones, and playful patterns bring “Shaman” by Penelope Bushman to life. A front-facing figure stands beside a slender staff, wearing a cream-and-gray top with golden-yellow marks above a richly patterned blue garment dotted with orange accents. A beaded necklace and a curved row of turquoise-colored beads add dimension and lovely little details to explore.

A pale blue sky meets the ochre landscape, with a painted spiral nestled beside the figure. Textured brushwork and hand-sewn beading make this 6" x 6" miniature oil painting especially rewarding up close. Gallery wrapped, it brings a welcoming splash of color to a small wall or a favorite grouping of artwork.

About the Artist

A smiling woman with long red hair and blue eyes wearing a bright turquoise button-up shirt, photographed indoors against a warm-toned decorative background.

Penelope grew up surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes of northern Indiana where she began painting watercolors of the beach at a young age. She studied fine art at the Academy of Art in Chicago. After completing her training, she moved to Arizona and was inspired by the rich beauty of the southwest and its native history.

Penelope translates the ancient imagery into colorful contemporary portrayals of shamans and sentinels. She is "intrigued by the shaman figure depicted in petroglyphs for all it symbolizes: healing, wisdom and the quest for spiritual connection."

Penelope's original oil on canvas paintings display her love of color and texture. The Shamans gowns portray beautiful fabric designs and include interesting elements of texture and often hand-strung bead work.

Penelope welcomes commissions and would be delighted to create an original oil painting tailored to your preferred size and color palette.
