Description

Inspired by traditional Navajo weaving patterns, this striking curved glass tray by Carol Lujan marries fused and dichroic glass into a luminous art piece. Elevated on a platform base, light dances through the glass, revealing its hidden depths. At its heart sits a dragonfly—a sacred messenger in Native American tradition, symbolizing transformation, healing, and the pure waters of life. In sand paintings and folklore, dragonflies carry wishes skyward and herald the rains of summer. A colorful sculpture that glows with meaning.

About the Artist

Carol Lujan is an enrolled citizen of the Navajo Nation and an acclaimed clay and glass artist working between Arizona and New Mexico. Art and creativity are woven into her heritage—she descends from a distinguished lineage of Navajo weavers from the Big Water clan, including her great-grandmother, grandmother, and aunts. Her great-grandfather, Thomas V. Keam, was a respected early 1900s trader on the Navajo and Hopi reservations who championed Native art (Keam's Canyon, Arizona, is named after him).

Her recent focus is fused glass art, where she creates innovative pieces that bridge traditional Native design with contemporary glass techniques. Carol's signature glass rugs translate the visual language of Navajo weaving into luminous glass, drawing inspiration from her grandmother's weavings and historic mid-1800s textile patterns. She also creates striking glass masks, bowls, and platters that honor ancestral artistry while exploring new creative territory.
