Description

Small in size and full of character, “Shaman” by Penelope Bushman invites a closer look. A figure wrapped in a richly patterned purple garment holds a slender staff against a warm, earthy background. Deep blue accents, little touches of gold, and hand-sewn beading bring texture and detail to this miniature oil painting.

At 6" x 6", it’s a lovely way to add color and a quiet sense of presence to a small wall or a favorite grouping of artwork. The gallery-wrapped presentation keeps the focus on the painting and its delightful details.

About the Artist

A smiling woman with long red hair and blue eyes wearing a bright turquoise button-up shirt, photographed indoors against a warm-toned decorative background.

Penelope grew up surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes of northern Indiana where she began painting watercolors of the beach at a young age. She studied fine art at the Academy of Art in Chicago. After completing her training, she moved to Arizona and was inspired by the rich beauty of the southwest and its native history.

Penelope translates the ancient imagery into colorful contemporary portrayals of shamans and sentinels. She is "intrigued by the shaman figure depicted in petroglyphs for all it symbolizes: healing, wisdom and the quest for spiritual connection."

Penelope's original oil on canvas paintings display her love of color and texture. The Shamans gowns portray beautiful fabric designs and include interesting elements of texture and often hand-strung bead work.

Penelope welcomes commissions and would be delighted to create an original oil painting tailored to your preferred size and color palette.
