Description

A brilliant red-orange robe and a dragonfly motif give “Shaman” by Penelope Bushman its distinctive character. Burgundy marks sweep across the figure’s garment, framed by a bright blue border and a patterned collar in orange, green, and pale blue. A necklace of blue, amber-colored, and red beads adds dimension, while small bead accents punctuate the robe’s blue edge.

Beside the figure, a circular blue-bordered design holds a red dragonfly against a luminous green center. A slender dark staff and a softly painted spiral balance the composition against a textured, earthy background. Measuring 6" x 6", this gallery-wrapped miniature oil painting offers rich color and intricate details to enjoy up close, whether displayed on a small wall or as part of a favorite art grouping.

About the Artist

A smiling woman with long red hair and blue eyes wearing a bright turquoise button-up shirt, photographed indoors against a warm-toned decorative background.

Penelope grew up surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes of northern Indiana where she began painting watercolors of the beach at a young age. She studied fine art at the Academy of Art in Chicago. After completing her training, she moved to Arizona and was inspired by the rich beauty of the southwest and its native history.

Penelope translates the ancient imagery into colorful contemporary portrayals of shamans and sentinels. She is "intrigued by the shaman figure depicted in petroglyphs for all it symbolizes: healing, wisdom and the quest for spiritual connection."

Penelope's original oil on canvas paintings display her love of color and texture. The Shamans gowns portray beautiful fabric designs and include interesting elements of texture and often hand-strung bead work.

Penelope welcomes commissions and would be delighted to create an original oil painting tailored to your preferred size and color palette.
